A small, free tool built to answer one annoying question quickly: what does this number look like with VAT on or off?
Why this site exists
VatFlip started as a way to stop switching between a phone calculator and a chart of accounts just to sanity-check a VAT figure or look up what a nominal code actually means. Most VAT calculators online do the maths but stop there — this one adds the reference material that usually sits in a separate spreadsheet or a Sage help article: a full glossary of standard nominal codes, and a growing set of posts working through how specific codes are actually used day to day.
What's on the site
The VAT calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored. The nominal codes glossary covers around 175 standard codes: what each one is for, its category, and whether it normally carries a debit or credit balance. The blog goes a level deeper, with a new post most weeks working through a specific code or pair of codes with a worked example.
Independent of Sage
VatFlip is an independent reference resource and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Sage (UK) Limited. The nominal code numbers and names reflect common default chart-of-accounts conventions used widely across UK bookkeeping software, provided here for general educational reference — not as official Sage documentation.
